Corpus Christi CYO Camp Experience
The 8th grade class spent 4 days and 3 nights at the CYO Camp in Occidental, CA. on May 4th through 7th. There, they participated in activities that teach them to be stewards of God’s Creation and in several team building activities. As a result they have learned to be more like a Family. The following statements are from some of the students’ shared experiences...
"Being at the CYO Camp was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. I felt free and felt like I could just be myself out there.” – Monica L.
“My CYO Camp experience is one I don’t regret and won’t forget. It was amazing in many ways. While we did our activities, we got closer to each other. Some of the fun things I learned was how to canoe and how to build a fire from scratch. Both were scary at first, but fun afterwards. I’ve learned to communicate better and how to be a good leader.” – Marcela A.
“CYO Camp was one of the best life changing experiences I have ever had. It was also one that I’ll never forget. This event brought us all together not only as classmates but also as one big family. This experience taught everyone work together as a team. It couldn’t have been any better that it already was.” – Ivan C.
“I will be honest. I thought that this camp would be boring. I was dead wrong and I’m glad I was. It was great! The instructors were very nice and easy to work with. The food was great as well. The best part of meals was you could keep for more. I hope to be able to return on day.” – David M.
“When I was at CYO Camp, it was fun because we go outside in nature and we work together.” – Mario Z.
“The experience I had at CYO Camp was unbelievable. The food was delicious. Nature was everywhere and everything was just so peaceful. There is way more to the camp but you will just have to experience it. After CYI, the class is more connected to each other in a stronger level. I just hope that it happens to everyone to goes there.” – Luigi B.
“After CYO, I learned to trust and encourage others more, that teamwork requires more patience. I learned to paddle a canoe and figure out what archery was all about. It got my friends and I much closer to each other.” – Anna Marie S.
“My experience at CYO was absolutely amazing. I had so much fun. The instructors were really sweet and helpful. They taught us a lot of funny songs and I will never forget them. On our last night, we had the opportunity to have s’mores at a camp fire. I will never forget this experience. I wish I can go back.” – Alice S.
“I spent four days and three nights at CYO Camp in Occidental, CA and I had to say, it was the best time I ever spent at ‘school.’ The instructors told us the importance of place ourselves ‘third’ before God and nature. We had many group activities that had to deal with communicating with each other. Sometimes, we had to direct our friends because they were blindfolded or instructed to be silent.” – Luis W.
“At the camp, we learned many life lessons. One of my favorite parts was learning to build a fire using sticks, dead leaves, flint and a starter. The food was delicious and was ‘family’ style.” – Kevin P.
